[Discussion] The Solution: Player Movement

I know of one person who was moved in my alliance. He's now surrounded by players, most of whom appear to be inactive and very small (not even in an alliance). Jury's still out on whether that will help. Fingers crossed. Spinster looks to be in a decent neighborhood, but there are still far too many inactives at first glance.

Of course, if spinster's toggle was set to "don't move" then that's another issue.

I hope you can finish it all before the next tournament starts, otherwise some will be in a very interesting neighbourhood and some in a hood that still sucks, which will be largely unfair.

Do you threat beta as real game? o_O

For me, all I want are real neighbors and not gold mines. Orc Age is costly!

Inno does it that way, the cost of extra features are skyhigh.
From my experience with Inno, the quality on the real servers is hardly better than on beta.
Implementing a reallocation algoritm on a repeating map shall be peanuts, but still they manage to screw it up.

I'm deeply disappointed. I've been living in a barely-populated wilderness and now because of this Big Move I've lost four of the few active neighbours I had (spinster, Tjalle Finurt, Kilowog and Raina). This is not what anyone would call an improvement.

We won't move players when there is an active Tournament. :)

We're sorry for this. We will continue moving players towards the center - the test we did yesterday was only on a small scale - today we will continue with more players. If you have your setting set to 'on' there is a fairly good chance that you will be one of the players moved if you are in a deserted area. Of course we cannot give guarantees beforehand, as the possibility to move depends on an available space closer to the center. :)

I usually don't make fun of people for embarrassing moments, but geez...they forgot to exclude the players who had taken the time to select "NO" and had to issue a hotfix? How does one neglect to introduce the first IF statement of an algorithm? I feel sorry for our Mods, they really shouldn't have to put a good spin on this inexplicable stupidity.

You must be kidding right? This is TEST server not a REAL game... Do you want to fix this neighborhood situation or not?

You must be kidding right? There is a lot of data stuck to the tounaments. If they move while one is going on, how do you suppose they transfer the progress of the provinces? Before you complain please think - and then write...

It's logical that you won't do it during a tournament, because that would make the tracking of the score of the tournament provinces much harder.
Because then the score of those players also need to move correctly. And I bet that Inno will fail doing that. I'm even more in favor of postponing the tournament for fixing this relocation first. Anyhow it would great if this 4 day tournament will also be playable during the weekend. Now it stops at the moment that I see that many players become more active.

What the point of playing tournaments if you play them alone in real game? This is TEST server... or at least should it be... but i guess is not is just another server to make PROFIT... #greedyINNO

if they have only 3 days per week to experiment instead of 7 days...

I guess we will have to play tournaments alone for ages. Better we find a way to trade goods with gold mines.
Don't forget we should be getting diamonds in those empty chests....

There should not have any player move if there is "any event and tournment running"

it will make the problem ( if found) complex

Move today or move next week ( or some week after ) is not a big issue as "your wish to move is granted"

If problem pop up, it may delay your date of "move" as Inno need to identify which part cause the problem
<you should aware ...sometime..how slow they solve a problem >

just like current problem, they move player that has marked "not move"

So let Inno take their step with problem-free ( or lesser ) method
Eventually it will benefit every player

First of, you're not the only one playing this game. No one esle but you is playing in the tournaments in your region. That does not aply to everyone else, thought. So please consider others as well. (No, I don't play tounament. I'm too small on this server.)

Secondly, yes, this might be a test server but there are still people playing actively on it. Do you want to place your discontent about the situation over their interests?

Finaly, they've run a FIRST TEST on this. Which means they now need to evaluate, reevaluate, and maybe even correct some thing. This need TIME. So waiting until next week to move more people might actually be a GOOD thing.
I would rather have them do this RIGHT instead of RUSHED. And if they need some extra days - hell, even some extra weeks - for it? I say let them have them.

i can live with or without the move option... they can take there time and get it right but i dont like shutting the game down every day for hours to move people. is this gonna be the norm from now on ????? while i knew about the shutdown on the 22nd and i planned for it< however today its shut down again without warning :(

We are only blocking the world for the duration of the tests. Once all tests have been done and have been successful the automated system won't require the blocking of the game world. Also, we will make sure player movement is done at night then, when there is the least activity on the server, as to prevent hindering too many players. For the tests, however, we require our development team to be available, which is why the tests are done during daytime.

We know that this can be annoying and is a major inconvenience and we apologize for that. We do require to do this, though, or we wouldn't have done so. Blocking a world is not a decision we take lightly. Please bear with us while we're testing. :)

For up-to-date information about the tests, please keep an eye on this thread. :)

nice...

new neighbors (apparently active players from the outer rim get moved inwards, as I am fairly close to the center), and some of them had shockingly good offers for trades. apparently, they were desperate at getting fresh resources. well, I did them a favour :D

I's also important to note, that even if you mark not to get moved, it is possible that the landscape around you changes.
If you are located near the center of the map, it shall be possible that you stay on your spot, and that all the coins farms are filled up by players that indicated to get moved more towards the center.
So IMO indicating not to move is not ensuring yourself to keep the coin farms around you, like some of the players indicated here.
It just ensures that your location on the map stays the same, it is not ensuring that the coins farms around you are kept!

I for one want to thank the devs for coming up with a solution to a problem that has been bugging peeps for a long time.
I also want to thank Muf for keeping us informed with what is going on and answering any questions peeps may have and I'm sure he wishes he had a cattle prod to use on some members who really need a slap and come back to reality.

So what do I see, moaning & bitching about the inactive's and lack of polishing, lack of trade, etc, on & on & on..........
Yes it was a problem, and yes we were sort of right to have a moan & bitch? (This is free and Beta )
They have come up with a solution to all these problems in one stroke, there are one or two little errors being caused by the solution, but you should expect that when their doing tests on a test server.
And what do I hear from the ingrates, moan & bitch, again.
Let them get on with the job the best they can, as they know what their doing. It makes absolute sense to do a small number first, then a larger one if the analytical data is ok, also doing during the day when their at work is just common sense rather than tripping the move just before they turn the office lights off to go home.
So unless you have any other way to do it with your magic wand??????

it is commonplace not to change neighbourhoods while a neighbourhood-based process in active
examples from FoE :
-neighbourhoods are changed on early morning on mondays, before the PvP rankings (neighbourhood-based) are open
-there is no neighbourhood reshuffling during summer casino event, because there are neighbourhood-related processes

so not moving people during tournaments makes perfect sense, because all the checkpoint chests are distributed according to neighbour involvement :)
I understand that many of us would prefer moving quickly to a new and better neighbourhood, but imagine 2 players in a semi deserted neighbourhood;
one of them is moved on friday morning, and ends up in a populated zone, while the other is a little bit more alone ...
the first one gets inserted in the tournament, and in very few encounters (s)he will benefit from the activity of this neighbourhood;
the second one is advancing province by him/herself now, meaning reaping much less benefits

this is because of this imbalance - and maybe too due to some probable issues within the way tournaments are coded and could react to a new player being dropped into the rankings - that moves will not be performed duing tournaments
I do not work for inno, but I know how to do things properly :p
