The Solution: Player Movement

Announcement_EN.png

Dear Humans and Elves,

Many of us know the problem exists, though some may encounter it a bit more than others: a lack of neighbors on the world map. After months of development, we are now able to offer you a solution very soon! We will move players on the world map.

Of course this is not something that is very easy, as your place on the world map decides e.g. your boosted goods, and we have the Tournaments as well, which also depend on your location on the world map. So, with all that (and more!) in mind, we will make moving on the world map possible.

So, how will this work?

First of all, we have added a new setting that makes it possible for you to choose if you want to be moved or not (this is already available now). By default this will be ON (because we believe it is always better to be moved, since having neighbors is very important in Elvenar). But, should you wish to remain where you are, you of course have that option. Do note that it is very likely that you find yourself in an empty area should you turn the setting off, since your neighbors will likely be moved. So please keep that in mind when considering to turn off this feature.

If the setting is ON for your account, it will be possible that you are moved. It is not a guarantee, however. The system will check the following:
  1. player activity (if you are inactive, you will not get priority to be moved)
  2. if there is a space on the world map available (the world map is a repeating pattern, so there has to be a space available that matches the one you are already in)
Of course, we will only move players towards the map's center. This will make sure that all players will be moved towards the same general direction. Also, any progress you have made on your account will of course be saved and will be moved with you, including your progress on the world map (scouted provinces, etc.).

Some updates ago we already changed the way in which we delete players, so that we create space in the center of the map first. We will be moving only an X number of players every time we move players automatically (the exact amount is currently not yet set in stone), so that it does not take too long for the action to be executed.

The first time will be a bit different, though. The first time we move players, we will trigger the action manually, which also means that we can do it several times in a row on the same world. This should make it possible for us to get most (if not all) active users towards the center of the map.

We plan to do this for the first time on our Beta world on Monday August 22nd.

In case of any questions or comments we invite you to post in the discussion thread!

Kind regards,
Your Elvenar Team

Dear Humans and Elves,

On Monday the 22nd of August we plan to perform our first player movements. In order to ensure that everything works fine and to triple-check everything, we have to block access to the world during the time of the test. We plan to perform the test and the first movements between 10 and 11 AM (CEST) that day, which means that you may find that the world is accessible not at all or (very) limited during this time. We apologize for this inconvenience and we ask for your understanding in this.

Kind regards,
Your Elvenar Team

Dear Humans and Elves,

The initial test was successful and the first players were moved (very low number). We will continue with another test involving more players, so the world will be unavailable for some more time today. Our apologies for the inconvenience and we appreciate your patience!

Kind regards,
Your Elvenar Team

Dear Humans and Elves,

The second test was also successful and some more players were moved. The Beta world is now available again for login. Thank you for your patience!

Kind regards,
Your Elvenar Team

Dear Humans and Elves,

We'd like to let you know that the results of the tests were successful. Thank you again for your patience while we were running them! We are now planning a follow-up for tomorrow morning, August 23rd, where we move a large number of players on our Beta world (up to 1500 eligible players in one session). Depending on the results there may be further moves tomorrow already, but we cannot say that yet at this point. Just like today, during the time we're moving players, the Beta world will be unavailable for login. We apologize for the inconvenience this causes, and ask for your understanding.

Kind regards,
Your Elvenar Team

Dear Humans and Elves,

The larger-scale movement has been postponed to the afternoon (planned time is around 1pm CEST), as we had to fix one issue with the 'allow movement' setting first. This has now been fixed, so we will observe the Beta world for a couple of hours before we continue the further movement. Reminder: during the movement we will block access to Beta, so login will not be possible during that time. We apologize for that inconvenience and ask for your understanding.

Kind regards,
Your Elvenar Team

Dear Humans and Elves,

Our larger-scale test is now done and looks very good. We will analyze the results more thoroughly and monitor Beta for some time. If all is well, we plan to do another mass-movement, that time without blocking the world. This would start today around 2:30pm - 3pm (CEST). Still, while an account is moved, it is not possible to login on that specific account during the move (moving itself does not take long).

We sincerely appreciate your patience and thank you for it once more!

Kind regards,
Your Elvenar Team

Dear Humans and Elves,

We did a "final" move on Beta this morning. All players that could be moved have now been moved. We will repeat player movement in the future, of course. Our last tests did not show any issues anymore, so we are confident to take the player movement feature to Live worlds in the near future. We thank you all for your patience during our tests and thank you for reporting the issues that you found during our testing on Beta!

Kind regards,
Your Elvenar Team
