When the tournament came out 1000 points for winning was a lot relative to player score, but the exponential growth in scores, it's relative value has been declining. I suggest breaking up the competition by where people are in the game. Currently there is 100 spots that give ranking points. I suggest 50 spots per competition level, and opening a competition level be defined by chapter.
So players up to chapter 6 would have a top ranking point win of 250 points, chapter 7-10 top ranking point win of 500 points, chapter 11-14 1000 points, chapter 15-18 2000 pts.
So level 1 (chapter 1-6) competition points might go 250, 225, 200, 180, 160, 140, 120, 100, 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 35, 34, 33...
Level 2 (opens beginning chapter 7) competition might go 500, 450, 400, 350, 300, 275, 250, 225, 200, 175, 150, 125, 100, 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, 19, 18 17...
Level 3 (opens beginning chapter 11) competition might go, 1000, 900, 800, 700, 650, 600, 550, 500, 450, 400, 375, 350, 325, 300, 275, 250, 225, 200, 175, 150, 125, 100, 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 29, 28, 27, 26, 25, 24, 23, 22, 21, 20...
Level 4 (opens beginning chapter 15) competition might go 2000, 1800, 1700, 1600, 1500, 1400, 1300, 1200, 1100, 1000, 900, 800, 750, 700, 650, 600, 550, 500, 450, 400, 350, 300, 250, 200, 190, 180, 170, 160, 150, 140, 130, 120, 110, 100, 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
Level 5 (opens beginning chapter 19) competition might go 4000, 3600, 3400, 3200, 3000, 2800, 2600, 2400, 2200, 2000, 1800, 1600, 1500, 1400, 1300, 1200, 1100, 1000, 900, 800, 700, 600, 500, 450, 400, 350, 300, 250, 200, 190, 180, 170 160, 150, 140, 130, 120, 110, 100, 90. 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, 15, 10, 5. I would suggest the new competition levels have a one chapter offset on release, so this technology would not be added to chapter 19 until chapter 20 comes out. This way you have an opportunity to have a bunch of players ready to populate the new competition level.
I suggest a new competition level every 4 chapters, and the top ranking point score be double the previous competition level.
Put a technology into the tech tree to open a new competition level. Make them optional, but with opening level 2 competition, 50 AW levels and 4 premium expansions no longer count, opening level 3, an addition 75 AW levels and 6 premium expansions no longer count, opening level 4, an additional 100 AW and 6 premium expansions levels no longer count, opening level 5 an additional 125 AW and 6 premium expansions levels no longer count.
I would make all AWs up to level 6 just not count.
Now you've introduced some super interesting strategy, especially if the tournament levels have an optional technology. So, if you stay in a lower competition level, your ability to compete is getting more difficult, and what you can win is lower, but the most competitive players might all go for the higher prizes, so it might be easier to win more in a lower competition level...
