Remembering the players answers in the past:
What shall we do with x% coin rain, x% supply fall?

>> now it is increased by : ONE RELIC for one pick (60 ribbons) cool

Can somebody clarify the event mechanics with respect to hammers/bricks?

- So do we always get 1 hammer per 1 present? Is it impacted by 2x modifier?
- Do we get 1 hammer for the reshuffle prize?
- Is it equally likely to get 1, 2 or 3 bricks per hammer, or are probabilities differ?

Back in the days when I was still a Community Manager at Forge of Empires, this was one of the most beloved events and feedback was totally different there.
Well, I don't play FoE (so can't say how reflective any of your opinions is), but at least one Elvenar/FoE player has a very different perspective on player's perception of this kind of event there:

Note that this is the ONE event from FoE that gets routinely hated on every single year... we've begged, and pleaded, and groaned about this for 5+ years in that other game. (mind you, this past year's Carnival event on FoE was a pretty close 2nd.;))
Generally, the only way to end up 'happy' with this event is to just shoot for the main Grand Prize and set your daily specials expectations to about -1000000 or so. :p

since the code for events can be used at 80% to make a new one, foe will get the 3 chests kind soon ? :D maybe changing game at that time

I agree with the FoE player who dislikes the system. When you only want less than 25% of the things that can come in the presents you are not motivated to pick them. On FoE I only go for prizes when the daily is good.
I just looked at the first offering of prizes in this event. I have no interest in 6 of the prizes, little interest in 4. Two hour time boosts aren't great but OK. The Reveal 2 can show me good stuff or help me not choose the worst stuff. But Only the Ancient Wonder 15 is really attractive.
I don't need single relics, single spells, 2x2 buildings I don't even bother to craft when they are offered.
With almost nothing in the presents of value, why pick anything?
I always hated this system on FoE, still hate it here.

From time to time event mechanics will change to keep events fresh and not too repetitive :) If we would only stick to the chest system, it would become boring at a certain point as well, doing the same stuff over and over again.
We do not mainly complain about the change itself, but about the result.

I myself was quite surprised at the quite negative feedback about it.
That's what you get when you replace a system with another which is obviously worse than the previous one.

comparing it to the chest setup and having more/other choices there, although for this kind of event you can develop certain strategies as well (e.g. when you get the Reveal present before the Double present you can use it to double the rewards you choose from what has been shown.
Still, you have taken more than 90% of any strategy from us. If you take away 90% of car's ability to turn, we won't be able to drive at all.

Also, reshuffling basically means free hammers and such).
Well, unless you double the amount of everything Gingerbread Mansion gives or replace the T2 goods for expired goods for advanced chapters, we don't care how many hammers we get.

It's just a totally different kind of mechanism than with the chests, so you can't really compare the two.
Changing the mechanism is not the problem, the problem is, that with the combination of the new mechanism and new rewards, the results will be much worse than with previous mechanics.

Having almost no choice in an event in a strategy game combined with many very bad rewards and no possible strategy to avoid the bad ones (or at least improve chances to get wanted rewards) is a bad choice for a strategy game.

When we'll get the Reveal before the Double will be entirely up to chance, no strategy involved at all. A "free" tokens was already present in the previous events.
And of course we can compare the systems. The chests one has elements of randomness, but you can strategize upon it. This one on the other hand is completely random, but I gotta give it to you - nice attempt at spinning this around. We all know the goal behind these kind of lottery systems is to confuse the players and capitalize on gambling mechanics, just like in a casino. It really takes some guts and pretending that this is not the case, and trying to spin it as a way to keep the game fresh.

Hi guys,

Thank you once more for sharing your feedback :) For this question:

From time to time event mechanics will change to keep events fresh and not too repetitive :) If we would only stick to the chest system, it would become boring at a certain point as well, doing the same stuff over and over again.

...

Our aim is to be able to offer you multiple kinds of events and not just the same old chest system over and over again with different pictures :)

Fair enough. in theory that makes perfect sense, but what the game designers fail to realize is that the players really liked the 3 chest system and looked forward to it. Removing it is like a slap in the face. You have pulled the rug out from underneath taking away the things that we liked. That is almost tantamount to the developers deciding somewhere along the lines to change one of the Chapters because it has been around too long. Maybe you decide that WoodElves are boring and aren't needed anymore so you just remove them. You just don't do that. This is a similar effect.

Don't remove stuff that we like. Take away things that we don't like.

I get that you want to provide variety and keep the game fluid and growing but the key is to add variety without taking away what we like the most.

Personally I was very annoyed with the change from shanty towns to high level buildings. I loved my shanty towns. I could have 25-30 identical buildings all lined up uniformally giving my City a clean look and they were useful for the duration of the event. Yes it took up extra space but I didn't have to stop the development of my City just to play an event that would tie up my high level buildings.

If you want to add variety my suggestion would be add more variety to the event "types".
For example this year you have 6 events for the year. My suggestion would be to take three of those events and go back to the format before the introduction of the high level building requirements. Run this format for the 1st, 3rd and 5th event.

For the 2nd, 4th and 6th event you can try something new and monitor the feedback as to how well it was accepted. Every year you can change the 2nd, 4th and 6th event while leaving the 1st, 3rd and 5th event the same.

This would help to keep players happy by not taking away the things that they like while at the same time making game designers happy by letting them introduce new ideas. This also provides variety for the players where they get one event that they are familiar with and the next one is something new.

we only had 1 single complain a year ago : we can finish the event in 5 days.

Actually biggest complaint I saw was, the random luck which meant some players got lots of daily prizes while another none for the same investment.

Our aim is to be able to offer you multiple kinds of events and not just the same old chest system over and over again with different pictures :)

Does this mean we might see different types of event during the next year? Or are we waiting for a much longer time frame for this "new" style to become old and stale for the next one? I can appreciate the desire to freshen things up, hopefully one of the styles addresses some of the complaints in a better fashion.

In terms of filler prizes one of the reasons some people have lots of coin and supply instants, etc. is events like this. But with the change I will be curious to see if there is a drying up of those stocks for those players. Where as large stocks of relics and runes comes from heavy tournament play so some players will always have too many and some in early game might appreciate these, like in previous events.

I am at the 15 ribbon level of quests and have already gotten back to back quests asking for "15 Vision Vapor or Research 1 Technology". I did the first one and refuse to do the second for a piddling 15 ribbons. My Magic Academy contains only silly 2 or 3 vision vapor items to craft. So... craft multiple 3 vision vapor items costing multiple combining catalysts and taking hours and hours of time -- and when completed they would not even give enough ribbons for a single try at a prize.

I did take my accumulated 500 ribbons and try for prizes just to see how it would go. I got a few cheap "gifts" before getting the reset "prize". All of the gifts reset. So I had to start all over again trying to get something I wanted. I did hit one 100 ribbon prize but at the end - with all 600 ribbons spent, I got unneeded relics, unneeded coin rains, a pet food, and a single house artifact. No daily prize.

I'm already done. I will not waste my resources and time on this Scrooge Gambling Game.

Elvenar events have gone from a fun strategy and planning event with great prizes to a tawdry second-rate casino with high prices and silly graphics. That grinning gingerbread man is awful.

@Warmwing, File a bug for your back-to-back tasks. Inno has already stated in their announcement that this will not happen. See below.

Based on your feedback from the Mermaids and Autumn Zodiac events, we have also made the following changes related to the event quests:
  • There will be two different parts of the event quest line. The first part will be regular event quests for everyone, the second part will be a bonus section. The regular section will contain randomized quests, but be less repetitive than before. This section is finite and set to end at some point. The bonus section follows right after and will contain significantly harder quests, while granting a relatively small reward. This is aimed at the players who managed to finish the quest line and are still looking to continue working getting even more Red Ribbons until the event ends.
  • The regular section of the quest line will not require productions of a building of a specific level. However, this quest condition remains in the game for future use. Additionally, these quests will still occur in the bonus section.
  • Quests that previously asked for a specific basic goods (tier 1) were partially replaced with quests that also accept crafted (tier 2) or sometimes even magical goods (tier 3).
  • It is no longer possible to have the exact same quest appear twice in a row.

When I saw the announcement yesterday that high level workshops will not be needed for this event, I actually got excited. I didn't really take part in the last few events because of the stupidity of the "random" quests and the need for high level workshops. I love events, so was actually looking forward to taking part again. Unfortunately it quickly became clear that this is more of the same. Another design that was done in a vacuum where the players are not considered at all. Very, very disappointing. So, for what it is worth :

Prizes should be winnable not have to be gambled for in some ridiculous lottery type thing.
1 (or even 5) of any enchantment is not a reward. I can make them in my Academy.
If you remove a mechanism like the 3 chests, replace it with something equal or better. It was working perfectly, why mess with it?
A building producing tier 2 goods is not a good reward for final chapter players.
Having a daily prize building has no value if we can't win it.
Telling us something is an improvement or "fresh" does not make it so. No matter how many words or smiley faces you use.
This is Elvenar, not Forge of Empires. What works on the one does not necessarily work on the other.
Stop trying to bamboozle us with fancy moves and fix the event system. We want our enjoyable events back!
Listen to your players. They have been telling you they are not having much fun playing the game for a while now.

It is no longer possible to have the exact same quest appear twice in a row.
But you can easy get same quest every other one.
The worst solution for repeating quests that could be imagined.
Also, you can even get twice in a row when switching segments (and last quest of first segment is "Scout 1 Province or Research 1 Technology or Gain 15 Vision Vapor", you can be unlucky enough to get same quest as first for second segment)

I'd be happy to say something positive about this event. But you made it pretty hard!
Let's say it's good to try something new .

Too bad it's just more of the same : lottery isn't strategy. Players who came to play a strategy game cannot be pleased by removing the strategic part and leaving only the lottery!
Very childish in design, and in concept. Since I've been over 10 years old for a while now, you'll get no love from me :p
bad bad bad inno ! (taps on the butt)

I assume that they keep changing things to get people to buy more diamonds but I doubt that it makes a difference because there are some who will buy them and some who won't. I do occassionally, such as upgrading the MA and Builder's hut, one or two Magic buildings and sometimes I'll shell out for an expansion but I don't buy them for Events and I never will.

If their strategies had worked and people were buying as many as they want them to they'd have stuck with that Event design but seeing as they're changing things every time, making them harder or giving less rewards etc, it seems that it's not working and people aren't buying more. The fact that we're not getting the big time boosters like in the last event shows that they want us to be just short of reaching our evolving goals so we'll spend money. Don't do it folks; you'll just encourage them!

The worse they make things the more I'm adamant about not spending money on the game. I might not even buy expansions any more because I don't like the way they're treating us; messing us around all the time. I used to think that it's ok to spend a little because it's their work and they need to get paid but they're not respecting us by removing our freedom of choice, dictating our every move and attempting to turn us into gamblers, so it'll be their fault if people end up spending less on the game or leaving. :(
