New Fighting Strategy Video

Here is a video that explains why some province types like Scrolls are more difficult to fight than others - and how to recognize them, and how to make the best of a bad deal!
Particularly for those players who are unfortunate enough to have that material type as their Boost!

IMO, this is a Must-Watch for people who are struggling with Tournament fighting.
Please feel free to share it with your friends, fellowship and map neighbors!
:)

And please give it a Like and Subscribe on YouTube, if you would like to see other similar forthcoming videos from us.

There was an error in this video - I was recording it Live and creating graphics as I went and then splicing out the dead spaces afterwards; it is easier to do things that way.
But you have to be concentrating hard when creating a whole multimedia experience off-the cuff.

In the graphic I mistakenly wrote 'Heavy Melee' where it should have said 'Heavy Ranged'.
I have managed to patch it now - and here is the link to the new version if you would like to check it out?
It is downloading right now and should be ready in about an hour.

The video unfortunately meanders around a bit without really going into detail on why certain provinces are more difficult than others, or even why the scrolls province in particular is the most difficult. To my knowledge, every province is set up essentially the same way, so nothing's going to be more difficult nor easier based on that.

Light melee units are generally pretty weak, dealing decent damage but not really having much defense nor being very mobile. The scrolls province features the Orc Deserter as the 'counter' unit, which is one of the two best units at stopping light melee (the Orc General is the best). Combine light melee's overall frailty with the Orc Deserter's massive bonuses, and this is why scrolls is such a difficult province compared to others.

As another example, silk is fairly easy. It has the same setup as scrolls, but a much weaker counter unit, and heavy melee are generally a lot better at staying alive than light melee is. Enchantresses have much smaller bonuses against heavy melee than Orc Deserters against light melee, meaning they're a lot less painful to throw heavy melee against. In addition, heavy melee units have strong defense against heavy range while light melee generally get very low defensive bonuses overall.

Essentially, what makes provinces easier or harder comes down to which unit type is 'preferred' more than anything else, with the individual unit % bonuses being a smaller but still significant factor. This last bit is why I have an easier time fighting through the gems province than I do scrolls, even though Mist Walkers are practically immune to magic-users and they're the counter unit in the gems province. Even if both are in their ideal battle scenarios, mages are simply much better units than light melee.

Wow - that is a mean analysis.

Would you like to make a video for us, as an expert?

I will host it for you on our channel!!

Another issue with the Scrolls provinces in general is that there tend to be a lot of Mist Walkers and Rangers there. As has been discussed in the past, Mist Walkers have the highest initiative and Rangers have the second highest. In addition, both units have 4 move/4 range and can retaliate against one attack each round. That means you almost always suffer some losses before you even get to move your units (unless you're really lucky with the terrain) and you will also take extra damage from attacking them (especially in later rounds of the tournament, when you are highly unlikely to kill them in one combat round). The losses add up the further you go in the tournament.

To be fair, you don't actually talk about the tournament at all in the first 90 seconds-- just about your city layout.
You have a super cool narration voice, but I don't think you needed 16 minutes to explain why scrolls are harder.
Your videos are great, and I know many players appreciate them, but a little brevity might help.
Keep up the good work!

They do, I have highlighted this is my guides and it is why I use certain terminology like the counter unit. I agree that the difficulty of province very much has to do with the unit type, the ones people struggle with are the light melee ones and for some people mages (personally these don't bother me).

@Jackluyt The video gives a great explanation of a province structure. While you have focused on scrolls provinces only, you will see this structure in other provinces too. The graphic below is from my combat 201 post on US forums and shows the unit types for each province, if you look at the troops listed in your barracks you will see a pattern. The pattern always goes left to right - counter, key unit, Main target, main target, 5th unit type.

The composition of enemy troops and you key unit then impact difficulty. You have factors like qaccy pointed out of certain specialist enemies in certain provinces as well as your units basic abilities. Until elementals we also haven't had a wonder to improve the attack strength of light melee units so it will be interesting to see how that plays out in the future.

I wish you would put this in a video for us!

I will gladly host it for you!!

If I had your talent with videos, I would

It is a serious offer!
All you need do is start recording on Microsoft Movie Maker freeware, say what you have to say and show whatever graphics you have - and then save it to YouTube - and send me a link.
I will bang it into shape! Cut out the dead spaces, resize, etc etc. That is the way I make my own movies - I record all I have to say in one single take, and then post-edit into something watchable.

I am forever looking for people to make movies for our channel!!
Too many topics, and too little time...
