Important Event Preparation

Elvenar will soon be seeing new types of quests in the events. In future events, some of the quests will now require using workshops or manufactories that are on level (well, kinda) with what is available for you to build in your city’s current chapter. You will no longer need to have any level 1 workshops or level 1 boosted T1 (T1 is the abbreviation for Tier 1 which is marble, steel and planks) (Fellowship Adventures and the Challenges will still use level 1 buildings though).

The wording on these new quests is a little difficult to understand. Technically, workshops will need to be at a minimum the lowest level of what was available to build 3 chapters ago and boosted T1 manufactories will need to be at a minimum the lowest level of what was available to build 1 chapter ago. How many will you “need”? For the foreseeable future, it appears that 6 workshops and 5 boosted T1s will be sufficient.

What if you don’t have “enough” workshops or T1s? As long as you do have some workshops and boosted T1s at your chapter level, you can play the event. You will just not be able to make it as far since you will end up waiting to complete quests. If you have time boosters in inventory, you could use those to speed up production on your workshops/T1s.

What if you don't have "enough" workshops or T1s and want to get them built in time? Workshops take many hours to upgrade, so it is advisable to get started today. You may need to build additional residences for the new buildings as well. The boosted T1s are more manageable with the time needed to upgrade, but may also need additional population.

Preparing your city to do well with the new event quests is possible without spending any diamonds for most players. (There may be some "edge cases" where a city currently has no workshops or no T1 buildings and therefore struggles to prepare in time.) Feel free to ask for help with changing your city layout if you wish. There are many helpful long-timers here who are great with ElvenArchitect.

Human building were larger and produced more in the earlier chapters, hence the increased build times then. Once they became the same size and produce the same amount, the time became equal per upgrade. When you were actually building them for use at those levels, that made sense. However, just building them for the event does produce a bias in elves favor.

Is level 9 workshop really sufficient for the orc chapter? Because lv 9 workshop is available in chapter 3, 5 chapters before orcs.

I haven't been able to personally test it. The wording of the quest is "a Building of your current advancement (minimum level: third last chapter). In orcs, chapter 8, the third last chapter is chapter 5. In chapter 5, the range of levels unlocked in research (the research in chapter 3) was from 9 to 15.

This stuff is, in my opinion, entirely too complicated for most players to understand from reading the wording of the quest. If anyone has personally tested how the levels work, please post your findings to help us all.

To bloody complicated indeed. :( It should just say the level required in the quest itself.

The question is if these 2 weeks between beta and live are enough for devs to implement some algorithm which calculate required level automatically and put it in the quest task description. If not, "what is vision vapor" won't be the most frequently asked question.

Hi guys,

Due to technical limitations it's not possible for us to name the chapter number in the quest itself. The quest will check the level, but we can't adjust the text based on the chapter the player who gets the quest is currently in (for it's basically the same general quest for everyone, much like "a fair amount of..." is different per chapter, but we can't state the exact values in the quest text itself). To avoid even more confusion, please let me try to make this more clear by an example from an Elven player in the Fairies chapter:
  • The player is in Fairies and plays with Elves
  • 3 chapters before Fairies, is Chapter IV
  • Chapter IV doesn't have a workshop upgrade tech, so we're going back to the chapter before that, which is Chapter III
  • Chapter III does have a workshop upgrade tech, so we're going to look at the max Workshop level in that Chapter (because that is the level the game considers to be "their current advancement")
  • As you can see in the Wiki https://en.wiki.elvenar.com/index.php?title=Workshop in Chapter 3 after unlocking the tech, Elven players should be able to upgrade the Workshops to level 15, which would in that case be the minimum required level for this quest
  • So Workshops level 1-14 shouldn't count, 15 and above should count
Hope this helps :) Again: I understand it would be more clear to state the exact level in the quest text, but due to technical limitations around the quest system, this is currently not possible for us to do.

few minutes ago there was an opposite statement listed here, so can you recheck 2 things:
1. If chapter don't have upgrade techs, we are going to check earlier chapter or later?
2. if resulting chapter grants you ability to upgrade WS from lvl 8 to lvls 9 - 15, you have to build 15 or 9 is enough?

why "max" ? a lvl 9 workshop should also be considered from the third era, right ?

@Marindor That is different from the support reply that was posted here earlier. I assume the support person was wrong about this?

More importatnly, I want to adress something you said:
we can't adjust the text based on the chapter the player who gets the quest is currently in
That's NOT what we are asking for! Put the necessary level in the Quest Objectives. That you CAN do. For example:
Gain X supplies
The "X" number varies based on the palyer's current chapter, so it is clearly possible to display and track different objectives for different players based on their chapter. Therefor it should be possible to do the same for the Workshop quests and specify the required level in the Objective, for example:
Produce 2 Basket of Groceries in Workshops level 15 or higher
or
Produce X supplies in Workshops level 15 or higher
That will remove the confusion.

Because it's about your current advancement. Lets take another example and use the Wiki again https://en.wiki.elvenar.com/index.php?title=Workshop. Say you are playing Elves and you're at the start of the Fairies chapter. The Fairies technology unlocks levels 18 and 19, but maybe you didn't reach this technology yet. The quest system can only look/sort by chapter, so we said "taking 18 or 19 would be unfair, so we're looking at the max level of the previous chapter, which is level 17 in dwarves, and we'll take that one as sufficient for the current advancement", since everyone in Fairies should be able to have the Workshops upgraded to that level.

Only because of the feedback we got from the requirements being too hard, we changed the "previous chapter" to "3 chapters before", but still the same system applies. The max level you should be able to get your workshops at in that chapter, is what the quest system considers to be your current advancement.

@shadowblack there has been indeed been some confusion about it and we have addressed that internally. That's why the previous post containing that answer has been deleted, to avoid further confusion :)

at least give us a sheet with all the right levels or something, and not making the players looking for it on wiki and make calculations to figure it out...
