When you type "TEST \ TEST" in the chat input box it appears as "TEST TEST" in the chat:
You have to type "\\" (double \) to get a "\" (backslash) in the chat message.
Looks like \ is used as an escape character.
With HTML5 enable a single \ does show up in chat.
Note: I'm not talking about the "/" (slash) like those used in (old) commands like /who.
